MyLastTune asks a question most people have never sat with: what song would play at your funeral? Visitors pick a tune, write a short line about why it matters, and get a shareable card with their choice. Everyone else’s choices — and their reasons — are browsable too, turning a slightly morbid question into something closer to a public, ongoing conversation.

The build

Under the hood it’s a database-backed app: every choice is stored, tied to a person’s card, and surfaced back through a browsable feed of what others have picked and why. Over 12,000 people have chosen a tune so far.

The interesting part isn’t the CRUD — it’s the design. A site about funerals could easily tip into either grim or glib, and MyLastTune sits somewhere more honest: dark, considered, a little tender. That’s the balance a lot of “serious” small business tools miss — data and logic are the easy half of a web app; getting the tone and interface right is what makes people actually want to use it.

Why it’s here

Most of the apps small businesses actually need — booking systems, customer portals, quoting tools — are judged the same way MyLastTune is: does it feel trustworthy, and is it pleasant to use, not just functional. Building something people voluntarily return to and share is a different skill to building a brochure page, and it’s the one this project was built to sharpen.
